The three founding members of Citizens for Fire Safety Institute: Albemarle Corporation, Chemtura Corporation and ICL Industrial Products have elected to conduct all advocacy and communications efforts through the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) North American Flame Retardant Alliance (NAFRA).

After a thorough assessment of the public policy environment and our existing advocacy and communications efforts, we have decided that our message about public policy and fire safety is best served by managing all of our state and federal advocacy through the American Chemistry Council’s North American Flame Retardant Alliance.

Working through ACC’s North American Flame Retardant Alliance, we will focus on educating policymakers and stakeholders about the contributions of flame retardants to fire safety, and the science that supports flame retardant chemistries as an important tool to protect lives and property by reducing the flammability of the products around us. NAFRA will also support new scientific research on the safe and effective use of flame retardants.

Fires remain a very real problem in the United States. According to the National Fire Protection Association, in the United States alone, fires currently cause one civilian death every 2 hours and 48 minutes, one injury every 30 minutes, and one building fire every 65 seconds. We remain committed to enhancing fire safety and to working with others who want to speak out on this important public issue.
