Washington Fire Safety (Updated 10/23/2008)
Washington: in 2007, Washington passed legislation (HB 1024) that will phase out PBDEs. However, specifically regarding decaBDE, the prohibition only applies if they can find a safer, technically feasible alternative that meets Washington’s fire safety standards. To date, no alternative has proven itself safer than decaBDE, nor has any alternative proven to be as technically feasible for commercial integration. Citizens for Fire Safety is working to ensure that the Washington Dept. of Health takes a fair and balanced look at the latest in scientific data regarding deca and its alternatives. We’ll be sure to share with you, the citizens of Washington and elsewhere, any further threats to fire safety in this state.
