California Fire Safety (Updated 4/12/2010)
California: URGENT ACTION NEEDED: In the coming summer months, Mark Leno's SB 772 becomes eligible to be heard once again, banning flame retardants in children's products. Leno's new bill, SB 1291, now requires the Department of Toxic Substance Control to evaluate any chemical to be used as a flame retardant and to prioritize any flame retardants that may be considered chemicals of concern. Further, it prohibits the use of any new flame retardant in upholstered furniture, bedding and filling materials until the evaluation of the flame retardant is complete. Please contact CFFSI today to see how you can support the EPA's recent agreement to phase out Deca-BDE and develop green alternatives rather than simply banning life-saving fire safety products.
