New York Fire Safety (Updated 2/19/2009)
New York: SB 177 was recently introduced an is the same type of bill as last years proposed ban on BFR’s. We are unsure as to the nature of this bill, but believe that it along with others like it in other states would by banning these products put people at risk. In addition to this bill the state has convened the The New York State Task Force on Flame Retardant Safety. Which met for the third time (sort of) on January 28th via teleconference. Three presentations were given 1) John James - Environmental Specialist with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection presented on the "Evaluations of Deca and Alternatives in Maine". 2) Jose Reyes - Chief technology Officer for JJI Technologies presented on the "Use of Alternative Flame Retardants in the Electronics Industry". Essentially he was a salesman making a pitch for a new "green" product that he couldn't really explain because the patent was still being prepared for filing! 3) Alex Stone - Senior Chemist from Washington State Department of Ecology presented on the "Evaluations of Deca and Alternatives in Washington State". We are closely monitoring the activities of this Task Force.
