Maryland Fire Safety

New Jersey Fire Safety (Updated 10/23/2008)

New Jersey: Proposed legislation, as is currently being drafted, would phase-out various fire safety products based on an outdated and ill-conceived European standard. Rather than join the ranks of “environmentally conscious” states like California or Maryland, where they enjoy strong and clear legislative alternatives, this legislation wanders behind some fringe groups of the “old world.” Until we can find safer alternatives, we must keep them in order to protect our communities. It would behoove New Jersey legislators to consider standards like California’s which, since its implementation, has reduced fire related deaths by as much as 60%. Replacing the existing standard with one that does not require the same tough standards as other states would be unwise.

Fire Prevention Week: Citizens for Fire Safety teamed up with fire stations across the nation to visit local elementary schools and share fire safety tips with students as part of National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6th through 10th). The events, held in California, Minnesota, New Jersey, and other states, were a tremendous success. As you can see below, the students had a great time learning fire safety from their local heroes…
