Massachusetts Fire Safety

Massachusetts Fire Safety (Updated 10/23/2008)

Massachusetts: This state is studying an omnibus bill that would review and evaluate chemicals similar to the California Green Chemistry initiative. We are hoping to work closely with legislative leadership to craft a reasonable and balanced piece of legislation. Green Chemistry is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce risks to health or the environment through the reduction of hazardous substances. The state seeks input from governmental agencies, public/private organizations and higher education institutions throughout the state. We encourage all citizens of Massachusetts to voice their opinion on the importance of flame retardants to the Green Chemistry Framework. The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs will lead the Green Chemistry Framework through public meetings and partnerships with organizations throughout the state. Citizens will have the opportunity to offer their suggestions through public meetings and an advisory committee will be established to ensure that representatives from all related disciplines have a voice. Citizens for Fire Safety commends the state of Massachusetts for taking immediate and decisive action to enhance the current environmental and public health system. And hopes the state will be cautious and deliberate in its decision-making, insuring that all programs like this include reasonable and effective products that are tested and widely accepted as safe.
